What it is.

The Oakland Spring Hockey Academy is a twice weekly hockey on-ice training program based out of the Oakland Ice Center. This program is geared towards travel players and aspiring travel players at the Mite through Midget age levels. This program is designed to push players beyond their comfort zone both physically and mentally. The only requirement for participants is a full commitment to the program and a desire to improve their skills in order to reach their maximum potential as a hockey player. Players will receive instruction from the experienced and qualified Oakland Bears coaching staff. Goaltending coaching will be available at all sessions.

What it includes.
The cost includes two on-ice sessions per week. On-ice sessions will focus primarily on the Variable Goals Training (VGT) method, which is used to maximize the development of individual player skills by testing players read-and-react skills, creativity and on-ice awareness. The value in VGT lies in the ability of players to absorb the full creative potential the method offers, forcing players to learn how to make decisions rather than complete a set of instructions. Players will be motivated to push beyond their normal mental and physical boundaries to explore new and innovative methods of game play to negotiate obstacles in order to complete drills including agility skating, evasive and escape maneuvers, dekes, cutbacks, fakes and pivots.

What sets us apart.
One word. Instruction. Coaches for the Oakland Spring Hockey Academy have been selected for their teaching and coaching abilities, experience and dedication to youth hockey. You will become a better hockey player at the completion of this program. How much better is up to you.

What you get.
